Papa Bear

Happy Fathers Day to all the papas (or soon to be papas) out there!

I am eternally thankful for my dad.  He is one of the most supportive, friendly and generous people I know.

He has always supported my strange endeavors and dreams.  When I desperately wanted to be an actress at the age of five he used to tell me to ‘brush your teeth and read aloud every night and it will happen.’ (Because actresses have healthy white teeth and are strong readers.)

This teeth-brushing/reading mantra now reminds me of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois’ famous quote:

“Do your practice and all is coming.”

(Sri K. Pattabhi Jois is the father of Ashtanga Yoga.)

As far as yoga is concerned, my father used to ‘stretch’ me when I was a baby. He has also been encouraging of my yoga journey.  He came to California with me for the first half of my teacher training and continually shares sage wisdom on the logistics of making a living as a private contractor and the business side of yoga.

My papa’s favorite yoga pose is Salabhasana.
