Yoga Sutra #2:
Yoga is the control (regulation, channeling, mastery, integration, coordination, stilling, quieting, setting aside) of the modifications (gross and subtle thought patterns) of the mind field.
This is an ongoing process. I have glimpses of stillness in the mind during or post yoga. I’ve learned to become a silent observer to my thoughts and notice their patterns through yoga and meditation. My movement professor in college shared a metaphor for meditation with me that I still connect to:
“Meditation is like trying to get a puppy to sit still for a picture. The puppy finally sits still and you are ready to take the picture and as soon as you are behind the lens the puppy starts moving again.”
My mind is a puppy.
