Participation in the Fundraising, Service & Travel component of the program is optional to all students.

Tula will be partnering with BuildOn.org to add a Fundraising, Service and Travel component to this program that will provide not only a unique and life-changing way to quite literally make the world a better place. As part of this piece of the program, you will be asked to fundraise money to help build a school (where none currently exists) in one of the poorest regions of the world. You will then travel to that region and lay the foundation of the school.

Fundraising Component

Each student will be asked to fundraise approximately $5000 as part of this program. $3000 goes to directly to BuildOn.org (for the school that will be built), $2000 will be for your airfare, food and lodging. Once a month, we will meet to talk through fundraising efforts and support you. Tula will be paired with one of BuildOn.org’s fundraising experts that will guide us through the fundraising process. Any fundraising efforts that Tula holds will be split between all students in the YogiCitizen program.

Bimonthly Fundraising meeting to support you with your fundraising efforts, Second Sunday of other every other Month (beginning October 2013)- 7pm-9pm. (lead by Maile, Erica and a BuildOn rep). (These are optional meetings, but highly recommended for you to be able to meet your individual fundraising goals.)

Travel + Service Component

At the end of the year-long program, the students and teachers will travel to one of the poorest regions of the world and help to lay the foundation for a school that will be built there. During this 10-day stay, you will reside with a host family in the village where the school will be built. You will have a chance to work alongside the people that will directly benefit from this school. There will also be time to sight-see, do yoga and learn about the culture in that region of the world.

As part of the program, you will also routinely be invited to volunteer for Chicago based service projects that BuildOn.org organizes as well.
