“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart, and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”
― Donna Roberts
One of my dearest friends is visiting me in Chicago. We met Freshman year of college and have been soul sisters ever since. Maggie’s potent spirituality is inspiration to lead a richer more authentic life.
We attended a Bikram yoga class in Andersonville last night. Maggie is a certified Bikram Yoga Instructor and is possibly the only Bikram Yoga instructor I have ever loved taking class from. First of all she is the only Bikram yoga instructor that has made me feel comfortable in a Bikram Yoga class. Bikram classes are a set sequence and the instructors have a dialogue that they repeat every class. It can usually feel a bit stiff and recited and in the past Bikram Yoga instructors have told me ‘I can’t wipe sweat off my face’ (in the 105 degree room) or that ‘I am not allowed to drink water.’ Not Maggie. She is always kind especially when she is teaching and although her class is challenging and holds a level of discipline she teaches the room instead of reciting a monologue.
Maggie also slows me down off the mat. I am a born multi-tasker and sometimes I find myself moving on to the next thing before I have finished the task at hand. Maggie lives in the present moment and when I am around her, I do too.
Thank you Universe for good friends.
